ESPN Says We Care Too Much

by:Will Lentz01/31/11

That is, if caring means spending money.  ESPN’s Page 2 took a look at the ‘cost per win’ ratio for every major American league last week and rounded it out with NCAA basketball on friday.  Using the final pre-tournament top 25 poll from 2209-10 and the financial records, they looked at how much each school spent vs how many wins they got.  We’re just lucky they did it last year and not the year before.

Kentucky ranked 24th.

As a former student at UK, I’m proud to know that the school spent $660 for me on basketball.

Interesting to note – Cornell came in as the ‘Ultimate College Hoops Bang for the Buck,’ spending only $36,000 per win.  That’s about a tenth as much as Kentucky.  But hey, they spent close to $362,000 per spelling bee victory, so I’d say it evens out in the end. #Demarcus
