Evan White's 2021 Season is in Jeopardy

More bad injury news continues to circulate throughout MLB, this time for former ‘Cat and Seattle first baseman Evan White.

Nearly two months ago, White was placed on the 10-day injury list due to a strained left hip flexor. Well, that 10-day quickly turned into a 60-day, and now right at the All-Star break, White’s season could be in jeopardy according to Mariners GM Jerry Dipoto.

Dipoto, stating that the injury is more ominous than initially thought, hopes to have a definite answer on White’s injury in the next couple of days, however, season-ending surgery is still very much on the table.

“I wouldn’t anticipate having Evan back,” said Dipoto. “Perhaps, for the remainder of the year.”

This is a tough blow to the 25-year old first basemen who is fresh off a gold glove season in his rookie campaign. Only 84 games and 306 plate appearances into his career, this kind of news could derail the trajectory of the former ‘Cat. Although it is still early in his career, the 17th overall pick of the 2017 draft will have time to recover before the end of his contract. He’s currently under a six-year contract worth $24MM in guaranteed money. If all three club options are exercised, the contract maxes out as a nine-year pact worth $55.5MM through the 2028 campaign.
