Today on the radio show, Matt told listeners about the 1977-78 football team's attempt to hold a reunion during the weekend of the South Carolina game (September 29th). The 1977-78 team, aka "Curci's Cats," featured Kentucky legends Art Still, Derrick Ramsey, Jerry Blanton, Dallas Owens and others, went 10-1, undefeated in SEC play and finished the season ranked sixth in the nation. Pretty impressive, right? Considering the University is practically begging people to buy season tickets, giving a set to these members of Kentucky football history would be no problem, right? Wrong. According to several sources, the team was denied free tickets to the game by the University, and told they would have to purchase the tickets instead. Naturally, this caused an uproar with loyal Kentucky football fans, who started an online campaign via message boards to right the wrong, and sources at UK told Matt that the group will be given tickets to the game, free of charge. Well done, guys. UPDATE: I spoke to Tony Neely at the Athletic Department, who assured me that any former lettermen who have graduated from the University receive one free season ticket each season and that the ticket office had no knowledge of anyone from the 1977-78 team requesting tickets for the South Carolina game.
