Finals Week! Blerg!

by:Corey Nichols05/01/12
Don't let this be you. Alright, so there’s not really any news. Williams pushed his decision back, which is probably good for us. Still don’t know what the verdict is on the IU/UK fiasco, and at this point it’s been talked to death. I think for many of us, myself included, the single most pressing item on our minds is ending the semester and hoping we’ll be allowed back after we fail half our classes. For those of you who are students, tonight is probably the highest your anxiety levels have been all semester. Those papers that you had fourteen weeks to write, speeches you had months to prepare, and exams that you’re not ready for are staring you in the face, and you have nothing to look forward to this week. You’re right in the middle of it. Let me take this opportunity to take a break from sports and remind YOU to take a break from hitting yourself over the head with books and do something relaxing. Basketball players are doing autograph tours and visiting the White House, so clearly finals aren't all that important, right? So it’s Tuesday night, at 9 pm. If you’re studying, stop it. For two hours, stop studying. Find something fun to do. Need ideas? Say you’re an economics major, and need a break. Maybe play a game of UKopoly, like these good folks: Doesn’t that look fun? And it helps with your economics homework, right? Nevermind the fact that Monopoly is only fun for the first hour and a half, before it devolves into an outright fistfight. Also, kindly ignore the fact that it doesn’t have spaces for Rupp Arena, Commonwealth Stadium, or Rick Pitino. You figure those things would make the cut, right? Apparently this was made too soon after Ricky bolted, and the feelings were still a little raw. But there’s no explanation for leaving out Rupp and Commonwealth. Those should be Boardwalk and Park Place, right? But maybe Monopoly isn’t your thing. Accounting isn’t your strong suit, and you can barely count to potato. Something a little more active then? Say... extreme-indoor-UK-cornhole tournament? BAM! Got you covered. Alright, so maybe none of that looks appealing to you.  The point is this: take a break, meathead. Even if you’re not studying for finals, you can commiserate and take a sympathy break with us. This can be your excuse. You have three days left, and then it’ll all be over. For better or worse.
