Woodyard A Machine In light of the impressive defensive effort given by the Wildcats Saturday in Athens, no name sticks out more than once again, Wesley Woodyard. Wooyard recorded 12 tackles, 1/2 sack, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery against the Bulldogs. Wesley has recorded double digit tackles in five games this season, including notching eighteen stops against Arkansas earlier in the year. I have fallen in love with Woodyards football mentality ever since he arrived on campus back in 2004. He absolutely loves the game and plays it with passion and aggressiveness. No run, No fun Many have asked the question of just what has happened to the once potent UK offense? Well, the answer is simple. The running game is getting little production compared to the numbers it was generating earlier in the season. Through the first seven games of the season, in which Kentucky posted a 6-1 record, that Cats averaged 198 yards rushing per game. During the last four contests, in which UK is just a miserable 1-3, the offense has only produced 86 yards per game on the ground. When you can't run the football, you become easily predictable. It allows defenses to tee off as far as blitzing goes, which is why you have seen Andre Woodson on his back so often here lately. Balance is what made the UK offense so dangerous through the first seven games, however it quickly has become very one dimensional. Very disappointing to say the least. Cats Commitments Get Star Elevation According to Rivals.com, three of the Wildcats 2008 commits have been elevated to three star prospects after stellar senior seasons. Osaze Idumwonyi, Randall Cobb, and E.J. Fields were all bumped from their previous two star ranking. Here is a quick rundown of the three future Cats. Idumwonyi Idumwonyi (6'1, 260) is a physical specimen with a serious blue collar work ethic. He has the frame to add significant weight to become a solid lineman for the Cats. The trend this season for UK has been adding lineman to the lineup with quick athletic feet ala Zipp Duncan and Eric Scott. Idumwonyi fits that description to a 'T', and will be a familiar name down the road up front for UK. Cobb Randall Cobb is a versatile athlete that can play a number of positions. Although he currently holds down the quarterback slot for his Alcoa (TN) high school squad, he is projected to lineup as a receiver for the Cats. Cobb has excellent quickness and reaction time. A very smart football player, his field awareness also makes him a very good pickup. Cobb (5’11, 175) can be a addition sleeper much like the Cats recent recruiting miss in Earl Bennent. Fields E.J. Fields is a in state commitment from Frankfort high school with a ton of athletic upside. At 6'2 180, a lot of people have mentioned the comparison to current Wildcat Keenan Burton. Fields has the look and feel of a big time playmaker when you see how easy he makes the game look. Receiver is most likely the destination for Fields, and there is no doubt he has the tools to be a very solid contributor. EJ's best football days still lie ahead in the future as he has only began to scratch the surface of his unbelievable athletic ability.
