Football Recruiting Update: 2009 Prospect Deuce Finch

Louisville St. Xavier football is no stranger to state championships. No matter the season, everyone knows Coach Mike Glaser will have the Tigers in contention to bring home the title. This season is no different as the big X enters the playoffs 10-0 and ranked #1 in the State of Kentucky. A big reason for their success has been due to the fabulous play of running back Deuce Finch (5’10, 197). So far this season the junior has exploded for 1,368 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns in only eight games. With numbers like that, colleges are sure to come calling...and guess what, they have. "Right now as far as in state schools Louisville and Kentucky are recruiting me really hard. I am also hearing a lot of interest from Auburn as well. Coach Joker Phillips is my main recruiting contact. He is really down to earth and overall just a great guy." As the tigers enter the playoffs, they will have to win and advance without Finch, who is scheduled to comeback by the third round of the post season if the green and gold can make it that far. "Right now I have a knee injury; it is a sprain to my MCL. It is getting better, so hopefully my team can keep winning and I can make it back and help them reach our goal of getting a state ring." Finch has kept his eye on Kentucky throughout the season, and when I asked him about how he could see himself fitting in the offense you could hear the excitement in his voice. "I love how they use their running backs. Whether running, or receiving, they have a lot of great backs. I love their offense." A lot of people and scouts have questioned the speed of #7, but as far as he is concerned, it is a not a problem. "People question my speed, but it is deceptive. I have been clocked in the 4.5 in the 40 more than once. So I am not concerned. I have great vision and I break a lot of tackles." Fellow team mate Matthew Smith (6’4 270) has already committed to the Cats. Will that have an effect on Finch when he decides on which school to attend? "At the current time no. Maybe down the road it could. Matt is a great friend of mine, and he speaks highly of UK. It would be nice to play with Matt in college."
