Football scrimmage gives glimpse of the future

by:Thomas Beisner11/18/10
Instead of spending their down time this week playing "Heads up, Seven Up" or watching The Outsiders, Kentucky football decided to pass their pre-Thanksgiving period with a little scrimmage between the non-starters.  And, as is the case with these things, some names carrying hopes of the future made the most of their time on the field.  Most reports say that the star of the show was defensive tackle Mister Cobble, who is academically ineligible this season, and was expected help anchor the interior of a UK defense that has been thrashed by the run all season.  On the offensive side of the ball, feel free to get your quarterback debate started early.  Redshirt freshman Ryan Mossakowski out-played Morgan Newton, who left the game with a sprained ankle, and made what was the play of the day in connecting with EJ Fields on a long touchdown pass.  Fields did the work in breaking tackles and making most of the yardage after the catch, but Mossakowski gets the stats too.  And, of course, ups his stock with everyone who wants to debate who will be Mike Hartline's replacement.
