Football Signing Day Notes

by:Matt Jones02/02/10
Three quick things on the day before Signing Day. And with all of these remember that I am not reporting what I THINK will happen, because I have no idea. Just what others are saying. I dont follow football recruiting nearly enough to have my own opinion: --- We have a battle of insiders today as two UK media types are going different ways on a local kid. Miles Simpson from Northern Kentucky has split the media as Jody Demling says he is hearing Indiana is the leader and Larry Vaught tweeted out that his Northern Kentucky sources say that Kentucky will be the pick. You never know for a kid like Simpson, who has changed his mind a number of times, but we shall see on this split decision. --- Tim Patterson of Central in Louisville decides at 10:30 am on Wednesday between the Cats and the Cards. I spoke to one person close to Patterson who told me that the Cards had "closed strong" and he believed that Tim would ultimately pick UL. However, I have learned that sometimes people in such positions are not privy to the closest information. It has been a split decision for Patterson, especially since Charlie Strong arrived at Louisville, so tomorrow could go either way. Then there is the issue of whether he will qualify next year, but we can wait for that later. --- Finally, Ryan Smith of Birmingham is holding a press conference tomorrow, which is not good news. Kentucky has had a commitment for some time and an Alabama newspaper is reporting that the local scuttlebutt is that he will switch from Kentucky to Auburn. Smith is one of the better talents in the class and would have had immediate impact. It could be another late piece of bad news if that ends up playing out tomorrow.
