nba_e_noel_gb1_400 It's Wednesday, which means it's time for Chad Ford's weekly NBA chat over at the Worldwide Leader. With 22 days left until the draft, there's still a lot of uncertainty about what the Cleveland Cavaliers will do with the number one pick, and Ford says not to expect that to change any time soon. When asked if the Cavs would decide to go with Otto Porter over Nerlens Noel, Ford said that his sources tell him they're still a "couple of weeks away from making up their minds," and their decision largely depends on what they hear from doctors about Nerlens Noels' knee: "If they get uncomfortable with the medical, Porter could be the guy. Obviously, they could also trade this pick -- however the interest isn't particularly high." So is Nerlens worthy of the top pick? Maybe not in most drafts, says Ford, but he argues that he's just as worthy as anyone else this year. Another concern some teams have about Noel is whether or not he's got enough bulk to be a solid presence down low. Ford says that a lot of that stems from Nerlens' alarming 206 lb weigh in at the NBA Draft Combine, but that he's already up to 215:
"The more research I've done on this the more it seems that he was actually up to 228 before the injury. That during an ACL surgery and rehab, young adults typically lose 15 to 20 pounds. He should be able to gain all of that back. In fact, hearing he's already up to 215 from the 206 he was at in Chicago."
More protein shakes, big fella.
