Forget Kobe, Melo, and LeBron, Davis should have learned from Love

(via Dimemag.com) It's no doubt that Anthony Davis' experience on Team USA is going to be invaluable for his NBA career. He saw first-hand how the NBA's elite prepared, trained, and competed at the highest level possible before even playing his first NBA game. Davis, during his time with Team USA, mostly hung out with the some of the best perimeter players that the game has to offer.
It was cool. It was a great experience learning and getting a chance to play with all the NBA superstars," Davis said. "LeBron and Kobe and Melo were the main guys who took me under their wings and talked to me and told me about what the NBA is like."
Even though there is six NBA championship between that trio of players, all of them play the game differently than how Davis is going to have to play to be successful. Davis' game is constantly compared to Kevin Garnett. Garnett is now on the downside of his career, but at one point he was considered one of the best, if not the best, power forwards in the game. That title now belongs to Kevin Love, one of Davis' teammates on Team USA. It's a perimeter player's game in today's NBA, so it takes hard work for a big man to be recognized for his play. Love is one of the guys who's game isn't very flashy, but is one of the most efficient players in the entire league. Also, Love plays in the very small market of Minneapolis, another reason why his talents aren't as broadcasted as they should be. But, make no mistake, Love is the best four-man in the NBA, a title that Davis is going to try and take from Love in the next couple of years. Analyzing Love's game would have shown Davis how Love attacks the rest of the power forwards in the league. Love's success is no fluke, he works hard to be one of the elite players in the NBA. Sure, Love doesn't have the championship pedigree of Kobe and LeBron, but he should be Davis' role model as far playing in the NBA. Love scores, rebounds, and leads for his Timberwolves as Davis will try to do for his young New Orleans Hornets' team.
