Former Kentucky football coach Hal Mumme was arrested in Lexington early Friday morning.

According to the arrest citation, Mumme was charged with criminal trespassing and resisting arrest at the Hyatt in downtown Lexington. He was asked to leave and refused before allegedly using physical force against a peace officer.

“The listed subject knowingly remained unlawfully in a building,” the citation reads. “Officers asked and told the subject to leave the building multiple times, but the subject refused to leave. The subject attempted to prevent a peace officer, recognized to be acting under color of his official authority, from effecting an arrest of the actor by using physical force and violence against the peace officer.”

According to Kristen Pflum of Fox 56 news, Mumme ran up a bill and refused to pay, sparking the argument and altercation.

Mumme is due in court Friday afternoon.

The 70-year-old native of San Antonio was the head coach at Kentucky from 1996 to 2001 before resigning. His final record at Kentucky was 20–26. He then went on to coach at Southeastern Louisiana, New Mexico State, SMU (OC), Belhaven and Jackson State (OC). The veteran coach then went on to coach in the Alliance of American Football with Bob Stoops in Dallas. In 2021, he coached in The Spring League for the TSL Linemen.

The godfather of the Air Raid, he recently made a move into the NIL game by launching  Hal Mumme & Associates, an NIL agency intended to work with student-athletes to get deals with advertisers. The agency also says a key aim of the group is to “provide protection” for university admin and coaches when it comes to compliance issues.

“At Hal Mumme & Associates our goal is to compensate all student-athletes through leveraging their Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) with advertisers from around the country,” the mission statement reads. “From the superstar quarterback to the freshman on the women’s rowing team, we aim to boost team morale and serve the entire locker room.

“Our agency will use over 70 years of experience in college athletics to work with student-athletes and advertisers to make sure all our athletes are compensated at fair market value using yearly non-exclusive contracts. Our student-athletes will also benefit from financial advice and guidance from our accounting and investment team.

“Strictly following NIL laws, Hal Mumme & Associates will provide protection for university administrators and coaches while working in compliance with state and NCAA laws.”
