Former Wildcat Chris Rusin called up by the Braves

A former Wildcat has found his new home in the big leagues. Chris Rusin, a Bat Cat from the 2006-09 teams, had his contract selected by the Atlanta Braves on Saturday. The left-handed pitcher isn’t a total stranger to the Braves – he signed a minor league deal with the team back in January. When the season resumed in late June, Rusin was included among the Braves’ 60-man roster of eligible players for the shortened season. Now, he’s included in the top 40.

He joins the team after Jhoulys Chacin was designated for assignment Saturday. Rusin now becomes the fourth lefty in the Braves’ bullpen.

Before he joined the Braves, the 33-year-old spend five seasons with the Colorado Rockies. However, his last two seasons were, well, rocky. His strong 2017 season was followed up by a rough 2018 (6.09 ERA in 54 2/3 innings). In 2019, he appeared in just two MLB games, thanks to back problems and a demotion to the minors.

Now, he’s joining the team that is currently sitting at the top of the NL East rankings with a 6-3 record.

The Braves’ next game is set for today at 1:10 against the New York Mets.
