Ahead of the opening weekend of the NFL season, the Arizona Cardinals elected Peters as one of the team's five captains. It's the second straight year the defensive tackle will wear a "C" on his chest. From Central High School in Louisville, Peters played at Kentucky from 2006-09. In his four years he recorded 152 tackles, 27 for loss, 11.5 sacks and a crucial interception in Kentucky's 2007 Music City Bowl victory over Florida State. He was taken in the third round by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2010 NFL Draft. Shortly after Peters signed a free agency deal to join the Cardinals in 2015, he suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon. The injury did not slow him down, earning a contract extension through the 2020 season. Last year he started in all 15 games, recording 50 tackles, 9 for loss and 2.5 sacks. The Cardinals will open the season Sunday against Detroit with No. 1 overall pick Kyler Murray at quarterback. Peters won't be the first former Wildcat in action. Danny Trevathan's Chicago Bears will host Za'Darius Smith's Green Bay Packers tomorrow night on NBC. [mobile_ad]
