cal-baker The Big Blue Nation knows very little about future Wildcat Jemarl Baker.  There's only one certainty: this kid can shoot. The Southern California shooting guard is a late arrival in the 2017 class.  Baker reopened his recruitment after Cuonzo Martin departed from Cal.  It didn't take too long for John Calipari to convince the sharpshooter to come to Kentucky. In an interview with the L.A. Times, Baker revealed a few things.  First, he shared why he decided to come to Kentucky.

“I liked what Coach Calipari and his assistants had to say,” Baker said. “It’s a great opportunity to go in and get better and improve my strengths and develop my weaknesses.”

We know he's a shooter, but Baker insists he does not have to be behind the three-point line to put points on the board.

“They don’t have anybody like me,” Baker said. “I’m a different type of player. I’m not flashy but I can score in all different types of ways.”

A different type of player, he isn't a typical Kentucky recruit.  Without All-American accolades, Baker doesn't see Kentucky as a pitstop on the way to the NBA.

“I’m definitely a person who’s loyal," he said. "I didn’t leave Roosevelt (his high school) when things got tough. I’m a hard worker. I’m going to get my opportunity, and I’m going to flourish."

The last quote could help him the most in Lexington.  Even the biggest of personalities are not prepared for the BBN.  Baker sounds like the type of guy that doesn't need the spotlight to be successful.

“I don’t do much anyways,” he said. “I’ll be staying in the dorm, staying in the gym and hanging out with the team.”
