Lexington’s Frederick Douglass High School has transformed into a local football powerhouse since its inception in 2017. The nearby Kentucky Wildcats have benefited from that talent more than anyone. Three- and four-star recruits have flooded to UK in the last half-decade, with no better example of their impact than last Saturday’s win over Miami (OH). A pair of former Broncos, WR Dane Key and OT Jager Burton, were both important starters in Kentucky’s 37-13 victory over the RedHawks.

Along with Key and Burton, Kentucky also has former Frederick Douglass star Dekel Crowdus on the roster. The Broncos’ class of 2023 defensive back, three-star Ty Bryant, is already committed to the Wildcats. Looking even further down the road, there is plenty of young talent roaming the Frederick Douglass sidelines.

Jeremiah Lowe is one of them.

A class of 2024 defensive back, the 5-foot-11, 170-pound Lowe is on the verge of a breakout with his recruitment. On Tuesday, he earned an offer from the Missouri Tigers, his fifth from a Divison I program. Before Mizzou, his most significant offer came from Michigan in July, which was later followed up with two unofficial visits. Lowe is being recruited by Wolverines defensive backs coach Steve Clinkscale, who was once the DB coach with the ‘Cats.

Lowe also holds scholarships from Western Michigan, Eastern Kentucky, and Miami (OH).

But what about the Kentucky Wildcats? Will they make a move on Lowe?

Turns out they already have. Associate head coach Vince Marrow reached out to Lowe last week. Kentucky has had his eye on him throughout the summer. A trip to Kroger Field is likely to happen at some point this season for a game visit.

As a sophomore at Frederick Douglass in 2021, Lowe was one of the team’s defensive leaders. He finished with 32 tackles on the season at cornerback, including two for a loss and one sack. Lowe led the Broncos in interceptions with four, one of which he returned for a touchdown.

Now a junior, he and the Frederick Douglass secondary — headlined by Bryant — have been nearly impenetrable. The Broncos are off to a 3-0 start with a combined winning total of 109-15 through its first two games. The third game of the season against Lafayette was forfeited by the Generals due to illness. Frederick Douglass will host Paul Laurence Dunbar this Friday.
