Freedom Hall Was Drunk

The oddities of scheduling led to a very unique event last night in Freedom Hall. UK had what, for all intents and purposes, was a home game, but it didnt technically count as a home game due to it being part of the SEC-Big East Challenge. And because the game was in Louisville, the grandfathered in “Louisville liquor clause” allowed for alcohol sales at the game in Freedom Hall. Thus we had the rare game in which UK fans could watch the Cats and drink. The results were a total drunkfest. Like 18 year old girls at their first sorority mixer, some UK fans drank like there was no tomorrow, causing Freedom Hall to be rowdy, full of curse words and…well, loud. The loudness made for a great crowd environment, but the side effects made the whole thing feel surreal.

After attending the game, I have no idea how Louisville does this game in and game out and keeps order. Watching UK fans stumble out after the event, I was genuinely amazed at seeing what a college basketball game with beer can end up looking like..both for the good and bad. I used to wonder why they didnt sell alcohol inside SEC games. After last night in Freedom Hall, I now know.
