Sometimes you absolutely have to LOVE Kentucky fans....I mean LOVE them.  Today was just such an example.  Around lunch I get a phone call from one of our diehard UK folks, who asks me, "Is it true what I am hearing, is he REALLY in town?"  Now I must admit that many thoughts raced through my head.   Is this individual talking about someone huge, maybe the President or my man, Barack Obama?  Or maybe an actor with Kentucky roots, like George Clooney or Johnny Depp.  Or even, a famous athlete, maybe Roger Clemens, whose son Cody just moved in next door to me last week.

No, this caller was questioning me about whether I had heard that Buzz Peterson may have been in town to have lunch with Tubby Smith.  Yes, that Buzz Peterson....the former coach at Tennessee, who is best known for having an attractive (and overly tanned) wife and losing a number of close games in Knoxville.  It turns out it wasnt Peterson (it may have been former UK assistant Shawn Finney) but what is amazing is how quickly news flies.  Soon, it was the scuttlebutt of the internet and Peterson had been all but hired by UK.

I am not sure if it is like this at other places, but the level of UK fan interest is truly staggering.  For people to know the intracacies of the UK assistant hiring issues (and by the way, at this point, there are still no openings....) with such detail suggests a level of love that borders on "Dungeon and Dragon" level obsession.  Of course I cant really talk.....I guess I do run this blog.
