What should we know about Mississippi State?

For starters, let's take a look back to the first time Kentucky and Mississippi State matched up this season. The Wildcats defeated the Bulldogs of Starkville, MS (No. 22 at the time) back on January 23 by a final score of 76-55 in the midst of a three-game stretch of playing all ranked opponents. Kentucky's PJ Washington led all scorers with 21 points on 9-15 shooting and 3-5 from three, also adding six rebounds and four blocks in the win. Wildcat guard Tyler Herro also finished in double figures, putting up 18 points on 5-10 shooting and 3-3 from three. He also added five rebounds, one assist, and one steal for the Cats. On Mississippi State's side of things, senior guard Quinndary Weatherspoon led the team with 19 points on 8-17 shooting to go with five rebounds and a steal. Junior guard Tyson Carter also added 11 points on 4-11 shooting to close out MSU's double-digit scorers. On the day, Kentucky held Mississippi State to a season-low 31 percent from the field, 15 percent from the three-point line and a season-low 55 points. Finishing with a higher field goal percentage and three-point percentage, to go with more rebounds, assists, and blocks, the Wildcats dominated the Bulldogs across the board. In more recent outcomes, Mississippi State is coming off an overtime loss at home on Wednesday against No. 21 LSU by a final score of 92-88. In their last four games, MSU has won two, including a 92-84 victory against No. 16 Auburn on January 27. Like the Cats, the Bulldogs also went to Alabama and came home with a road loss, losing 83-79. Sitting at 16-6 on the year, Quinndary Weatherspoon leads the team with 18 points per contest to go with 5.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.5 steals. The senior guard is shooting 50 percent from the field, 37 percent from three, and 84.5 percent from the line. Outside of Weatherspoon, junior guard Lamar Peters is averaging 12.3 points, 1.7 rebounds, 5.8 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. Senior forward Aric Holman rounds out MSU's double-digit scorers, averaging 11 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists, one steal, and two blocks per game. The 6-foot-10 big man also leads all Bulldog rotation players with a 41.2 percent shooting percentage from three. In Kentucky's last matchup with Mississippi State, the Cats held Holman to zero points on 0-2 shooting, fouling him out in just 20 minutes of action.
