Jovon Bouknight hasn’t wasted a second of his time since moving to Lexington and accepting his new role as UK’s wide receiver coach. He’s already jumped right into the swing of things in practice, and now he’s sitting down with our friends at the UK Sports Network so the BBN can get to know him a little bit better.

The UK Sports Network posted a portion of the podcast on its twitter feed (available below), but you’ll need to head to the crew’s podcast network to hear the rest. You can listen to the 20-minute chat on Spotify by clicking here.

In the interview, Bouknight discussed his new players, and how eager they are to learn and work.

“Those guys they want to be coached and they want to learn. That’s the best thing, coming into a room that doesn’t think they know it all and have all of the answers. Immediately when I started talking about the small details and stuff… Those guys are attached to my hip,” Bouknight said. “They’re asking those finer points, and you can just tell those guys are eager to learn. I’m excited to see where this group is going to go.

The new coach also said he’s still working on getting caught up with the team, saying “I’m getting caught up on the scheme – I’m not all the way there yet.”

Bouknight’s hire was officially announced by UK on Tuesday, March 10, and he was photographed at a team practice that same day. However, rumors of his potential hire began picking up on Saturday, March 7, when reports began to spread regarding the pending resignation of former wide receiver coach Michael Smith.

Mark Stoops confirmed that resignation at a press conference Tuesday.

Bouknight came to the Bluegrass after one season as the wide receivers coach at Oregon.
