Go Watch Vee Sanford

by:Matt Jones12/08/08
vee Its time for those of you in Lexington to make a trip out on Clays Mill Road and see Lexington Catholic PG Vee Sanford take the court. Sanford has been one of the great stories in the last couple of years in Kentucky high school basketball, slowly rising up the charts and going into this year, he may be the second best player in the state. He had another great performance this weekend at the Marshall County Hoopfest and now looks ready to be the 1A to Jon Hood's #1 in the state this season. Plus, it looks as if Kentucky remains interested in Sanford's services. Vee told Scout.com this week that UK has said they are interested in having him go to prep school for a year next year and then potentially join the team in 2010 on scholarship. UK has been to see Sanford play a number of times and has kept in contact with him since last season. Sanford (and others) see the need for consistent point guard play at UK and thus he remains intrigued with the hometown school. There will be a host of schools looking at Sanford, ranging from mid-majors to some lower-tier BCS schools as well. But I am told that Sanford's interest in UK for 2010 is strong and the Cats are serious about him as well. A lot depends on how Sanford finishes the season. But if things go well, he could be the first Lexingtonian to play for UK on scholarship since Sean Sutton (or if you dont count him, then Leroy Byrd).
