Greatest UK Player Ever Tournament: Keith Bogans vs Jamaal Magloire

keith_bogans.jpegjamaal_magloire.jpeg The Greatest UK Player Tournament moves on and as it does, interesting situations continue to develop. Last night's matchup between Wayne Turner and Wah Wah Jones is illustrative. While the four "expert" votes all easily gave the matchup to Jones, the fan vote was much closer with Jones only prevailing by three votes overall.....the closest matchup yet. Thus Wah Wah Jones moves on for a matchup against Jack Givens that could be the strongest overall second round matchup in the entire tournament. Tonight's feature continues the tradition of greatness with two relatively recent players, Bogans and Magloire.... bogans Keith Bogans: In my view the most underrated player in UK history is none other than one Keith Bogans. If I told you that I knew of a player who is the 4th leading scorer in school history, was a 2nd team All American and led Kentucky to its only undefeated conference and conference tournament season in school history, you would likely say that this player should be celebrated as one of the best to ever put on the uniform. Yet, Keith Bogans has never seemed to get the credit that he deserves. After being named Second Team All-SEC during a great Sophomore season, Bogans hit the Junior slump and his performance on Team Turmoil soured some. However his senior season was one to remember.....SEC Player of the Year and the leader on arguably one of the 3 best UK teams ever to not win the NCAA tournament. Keith Bogans could score, rebound and was maybe the best power penetrator that Kentucky has seen in modern times. His point production is astounding, but what is even more impressive is that he left a legacy of winning.....it takes a great player to have adversity and come back....and Keith Bogans exemplifies that value. Magloire Jamaal Magloire: My favorite player in UK history is also one of the nastiest (in a good way) to ever put on the uniform. Jamaal Magloire is quite simply the best UK shot blocker in the history of the school and one of the toughest SOBs to ever man the middle. During his time at Kentucky, few people loved playing with the UK uniform on his chest. He began his career with a championship game and a national title as a reserve. He finished his career as a First Team All-SEC player and one of the best players in the conference. Magloire was a player that everyone who saw him knew had bettered himself during each of his four years at Kentucky. He came in as a shot blocker and an enforcer and he came out as an offensive weapon and a team leader. Jamaal Magloire played like the epitome of a UK warrior....and oh yeah, Wojo remembers a thing or two about him as well.... So there you go.....Bogans and Magloire.....an interesting vote for all of us.....Larry Vaught, Gregg Doyel, me and Rob.....and oh yeah....you as well.
