Hairston Named to SEC Baseball Community Service Team

This coming a few days after he was named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team. Each team in the SEC had one player on the team, here is why they awarded Hairston his spot: "KENTUCKY - Dorian Hairston, Jr., OF, Lexington, Ky. Is active in the community as a Lexington high school athlete advancing to the best conference in college baseball ... Has participated in the Bluegrass Miracle League, a youth baseball organization dedicated to providing handicapped children a chance to play ... Has worked with God's Panty to pack backpacks for elementary school children ... A blossoming poet, has read poetry and spoke to high school students, including at his alma mater, Tates Creek ... Is active through the Affrilachian Poets Society and his fraternity, Phi Beta Sigma ... Was the baseball finalist for the Arthur Ashe Sports Scholar in 2014, which highlights student-athletes of color who exemplify the standards set by tennis great Arthur Ashe Jr. ... Named to the 2013 SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll and the 2014 SEC Academic Honor Roll ... Has a 3.82 cumulative GPA as an English major, with a minor in African-America Studies ... Named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team in 2015." -SECsports.com Hairston is batting .306 with four home runs and 20 RBIS.
