Hansen's Tail's Saturday Night Post

by:asdfasdf04/14/12
All you fine folks at Keeneland today surely some of this blue tail-feather action from a certain horse's entourage.  A controversial happening took place at the track today when a 'tail of two colors' became an issue. Matt mentioned this earlier, but Dr. Kendall Hansen (supposedly) wanted to celebrate #8 in the most logical way possible - by painting the tale of his horse, Hansen, Kentucky blue and running it in the Blue Grass Stakes.   When the rumor of his horse's tail spread, the stewards called him up to the office and said that this was a rule violation (which Hansen knew because the NY track folks told him the same thing previously) but that if this was corrected before Hansen got to the paddock, then there was "no harm, no foul."  The blue was washed out and his crew shrugged in unison.  Maybe next time. You know what this discrimination against blue means right?!  #OccupyKeeneland Oh wait, you guys already do that.  Nevermind.  On to the day's news...  Graduating Wildcat Darius Miller took to the road today for his 'BBN Swat Tour'.  Darius stopped to sign autographs in Pikeville, where a huge crowd showed up as evidenced by this picture.  The other senior got in on the action, too.  Eloy Vargas hit up Henderson, Owensboro, and Bowling Green for his signing tour and snapped some great photos with fans like this one below, where he took a lucky gal to prom.  Tonight was the Jordan Brand Classic game featuring Nerlens Noel, Alex Poythress, Archie Goodwin, and Anthony Bennett.  (What? You didn't think we could cover a game with Nerlens involved and not use his tiny head shot again.)  The West team (Bazz, Goodwin, Bennett, Poythress) overcame a slow start to beat the East (Noel) 99-95.  This was a good showing by the Cats (and possible-Cat), as Nerlens quickly drew all the Anthony Davis comparison you could possibly imagine when he raced off to blocked three shots early.  We don't have the final stats for everyone, so we'll save that for tomorrow morning).  But I will say that Archie and Poythress look fantastic together.  Really excited for both guys.  Nerlens is amazing on defense, but he didn't get enough offensive looks to see what his repertoire actually entails.  Bennett moves extremely well for such a big-bodied guy, and he would fit in perfectly with this Kentucky team.   Several others players impressed, including Shabazz, Kaleb Tarzewski, and Rodney Purvis.  Shabazz and Purvis were both named MVPs.  The UK baseball team defended their No. 1 ranking after dropping two games this week.  In a double-header with Bobby Petrino's dating service the University of Arkansas, the Bat Cats won the first game 5-4.  In the second game, they won the series by beating the Hogs 2-1.  KSRcollege's David Wilhoff reports that this was the first time the Cats have taken a series in Arkansas in over a decade.  The UK women's softball team got a nice win today.  The softballers topped No. 11 UGA 4-0 behind Lauren Cumbess' no-hitter.  Great win.  The UK men's tennis team defeated Vanderbilt today.  More importantly, the men's tennis team completed an undefeated SEC season, clinching the SEC title.  It seems that the SEC Player of the Year is likely to be the wondrous Eric Quigley, as well.  Allow me to leave you with this - Last night was Baron Davis' birthday.  He's made a nice return to form this season in the NBA, but John Wall had a special gift just for his special night.  Posterized!
