Harrison Barnes: Bringing Billy Clyde and Tubby together

by:Thomas Beisner09/16/08
Iowa forward Harrison Barnes, the top small forward and fourth overall player in the class of 2010, is no secret to Kentucky fans at this point. He's become a big-time target for Gillispie and his staff (mainly Tracy Webster) and has been offered by nearly every program under the sun from his hometown Iowa State Cyclones to the Kansas, North Carolina and Dukes of the world. Yesterday, though, he was bringing together two members of the Kentucky coaching lineage.  Gillispie was in Ames, Iowa yesterday to watch Barnes at an open gym, along with Tubby, three Iowa State assistants and assistants from North Carolina, Stanford and TCU.   While the interaction between the two coaches is the sexy (although not surprising) story, it's certainly worth noting that one of the only programs with a head coach in attendance was Kentucky in the form of a tireless Billy Gillispie. Is this the sort of thing that might stand out in a recruits mind? I don't know. My basketball career peaked when I was thrown out of a game against Trimble County so my recruitment was a little less than en fuego. But, I don't think it can hurt showing a player that he's important enough for the chief to be there himself.
