I don't think John Calipari is going anywhere, but I'd rather his status as coach at UK not be in any doubt whatsoever. If the Heat lose in the playoffs, Calipari would be at or near the top of their wish list. Whether Calipari has any interest in the Heat job or not, it's beyond his control that his name will be thrown out by the media as a top candidate. Frankly, I don't want our fans and program to have to deal with the nervousness that we'd all have if the Heat tried to lure Calipari, or even if ESPN just spent a lot of time speculating about it. Needless to say, I was pleased that the Miami Heat escaped Indy with a 101-93 victory over the Pacers to tie up the series and bring it back to South Beach. Now that we can all hold a collective sigh of relief, at least for now, we can all root for Eric Bledsoe to make an impact for a desperate Clippers team on the verge of a sweep tonight. Our friends over at NBAcats.com wrote a nice piece, calling for Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro to start Bledsoe over All-Star point guard Chris Paul.
During the regular season Chris Paul averaged 19.8 points and 9.1 assists. Against the Spurs, he’s averaging 9.3 points (on 30% shooting) and 8.7 assists. Clearly, he’s not the same player. So much so in fact, that Eric Bledsoe is actually averaging more points a game (9.7) than Paul.
Malcom C. Brown of the Sporting News thinks Bledsoe needs an increased role as well, but to supplement Chris Paul as a shooting guard as he did alongside John Wall at Kentucky. Either way, lets hope that Bledsoe finds the floor tonight and makes a significant impact for the Clips. #FreeBledsoe
