Details are emerging from the news of the day. Less than 24 hours after Kentucky fired Mark Stoops, we learned that the Wildcats will be replacing him with Will Stein.

Speed was always going to be a priority in this Kentucky football coaching search. After all, on the day Kentucky fired its coach, five other SEC schools hired new coaches. If you wait around too long, you’ll get left behind.

Kentucky moved quickly to bring Stein into the fold, but there is something else they must navigate. His Oregon Ducks are going to be in the College Football Playoff.

The CFP was a big sticking point in the mess Lane Kiffin made at Ole Miss. That has not been an issue for Jon Sumrall and Florida. Tulane is allowing him to remain with the Green Wave through the postseason. If they win at home in Saturday’s AAC Championship Game, they’re in the Playoff.

Kentucky and Oregon will agree to keep things copasetic. Pete Thamel reports that Stein is expected to call Oregon’s offense throughout the College Football Playoff. He’ll juggle both jobs until the Oregon season ends.

The Ducks were sixth in last week’s CFP Rankings. They’re in line to host a first-round matchup at Autzen Stadium Dec. 19 or 20th. If the Ducks win, or win again, things get tricky. The CFP quarterfinals are on New Year’s Day. The transfer portal opens the following day.

If the Ducks win two CFP games, Will Stein will be juggling a roster rebuild at Kentucky while also preparing for a National Semifinal. Hopefully, he’s as good at juggling as he is at developing quarterbacks.
