The Cats got off to a hot start against the visitors from Charlotte University, jumping out to a 29-9 score after one quarter. It helped to shoot 10-of-16 from the field with five made 3-pointers during those first 10 minutes. Rhyne Howard had 13 points and two of those made 3s in the first quarter. After the game, Charlotte's head coach, Cara Consuegra, said defending Howard was a problem they were well aware of coming into the game. Consuegra called UK's star player one of the best in the entire country, and admitted she has no one on her Charlotte roster that can match up with the sophomore guard. Howard tied her career-high in scoring with 29 points in the end. Sabrina Haines and Jaida Roper joined her in double figures with 16 and 10, respectively. As a team, Kentucky outscored its opponent, 86-39, with 22 forced turnovers on defense. Now for the biggest story of the game: the kids. UK hosted over 1,000 local elementary school students at the game and they were rowdy. You thought Rupp Arena got loud for free Chick-fil-a? I may never get my hearing back after sitting through this one. The kids were screaming for free chicken, screaming after made baskets, screaming during timeouts, screaming after missed baskets and screaming just to scream. And when "Old Town Road" came over the speakers, all however-many-thousand of them danced and sang every word. What a fun day game for the UK women. Go Cats.
