Kentucky football coaches are hitting the road for in-home visits ahead of the Early Signing Period. This year feels much different, because it is.

The recruiting calendar has changed. Mark Stoops and his staff used to leave Lexington the Sunday after a win over Louisville to visit recruits. This year there was a brief in-person recruiting moratorium. It allowed for coaches to meet with their current players before the transfer portal opened. Now that the open recruiting period is off and running, the Wildcats are spending time with potential high school prospects.

It all started this weekend close to home. Mark Stoops and Vince Marrow spent time at Kroger Field for the KHSAA State Championships. They watched a couple of future Cats shine. Ty Brant scored a touchdown and picked off a pass in the Frederick Douglass 5A win, while DL Tommy Ziesmer put the team on his back to score the game-winning touchdown for Boyle County in 4A.

Following the games on Friday and Saturday, Vince Marrow traveled to Detroit for an in-home visit with Khamari Anderson. Ranked as the No. 25 tight end in the On3 Consensus, the Cincinnati commit reopened his recruitment following Luke Fickell’s departure. A product of Cass Tech, the home of DeAndre Square and Deone Walker, he scheduled an official visit to Kentucky this weekend.

Mark Stoops was in Lexington Monday for a press conference and meetings with current players who are mulling their future at UK. The day before he was in New Jersey with Brad White, Chris Collins and Scott Woodward at the home of Nasir Addison. The 6-foot-2 three-star commit is expected to play defensive back at Kentucky.

Ardell Banks announced his commitment to Kentucky Monday night. The 6-foot-3 three-star prospect from Massilon, OH publicly pledged his allegiance to the Wildcats shortly after hosting Vince Marrow for an in-home visit. Banks picked the Cats over Pitt, Cincinnati, Arizona State, Wisconsin and Syracuse.

Marrow has also spent some time in his hometown. He spent Friday with DJ Waller, a three-star defensive back that’s also considering Michigan. He’ll announce his decision Dec. 21. Mark Stoops joined Marrow for a visit Tuesday morning.

On Monday Ironton High School hosted Kentucky coaches. The school has a few high profile players looking for new homes. RB Jacquez Keyes decommitted from Wisconsin late Monday night. LB Trevor Carter remains committed to Cincinnati, but is listening to other schools as the Early Signing Period draws news.
