When the Minnesota Timberwolves won the NBA Draft Lottery, it seemed like Jahlil Okafor was destined to be the number one pick. Timberwolves GM/coach Flip Saunders reportedly preferred Okafor over Karl Towns, but in the weeks since, that has apparently changed.
Sources tell Forbes' Mark Heisler "there's no doubt" the Timberwolves will take Towns first:
Minnesota GM/coach Flip Saunders, who had been leaning toward Okafor, is said to have turned pro-Towns after seeing him last week in Los Angeles.
The splash sent ripples throughout the NBA. Says an insider: “There’s no doubt, the T-Wolves are taking Towns.”
This rumor coincides with one that's been floating around this week that the Los Angeles Lakers are locked in on Okafor at number two. And while it may dash our dreams of Julius Randle and Karl teaming up, Minnesota is an extremely talented young team; however, anything can happen in the next thirteen days...
