Interesting Adolph Rupp article
As the controversy over the "Glory Road" movie has died down (or maybe it was just a controversy in Kentucky), most of us are moving on to hoping that the Cats can seal an NCAA Tournament bid. However I ran into a newspaper column today that I found very interesting. This writer from a South Florida newspaper has done something that you very rarely will see anyone do....especially a sportswriter....admit that he may have been wrong. In his column he says that he hastily labeled Rupp a racist and that he was incorrect in making that statement.
I have no idea whether this author is correct as my opinion on Rupp is one that is not strong and is likely even less informed. My guess is that Rupp was a man of his time and could have done more to integrate UK basketball. However there is evidence on both sides, and I will withhold judgment. But I am impressed with this author....he took the comments of a reader....did research and changed his mind. Very refreshing to see.
