Is a Commitment Coming Soon?

Last weekend was one of the best for the major athletics programs as a whole at Kentucky in its long and storied history. The football team knocked off #1 for only the third time ever and the basketball team kicked off the regime of only its 6th coach of the past 70 years. While most of the attention of the weekend has been focused on names like Woodson, Old Man Brooks, Billy Clyde and Pat Patterson, another name may end up being a strong legacy of the weekend. For it looks more and more like Georgia Big Man Chris Singleton is considering becoming the newest Kentucky Wildcat basketball commitment. For those of you who havent followed the Singleton affair, Chris is exactly the type of player that Kentucky needs to compliment its 2008 commitments of DeAndre Liggins and Darius Miller. Long and athletic, but able to bang inside, Singleton has exactly the type of perimeter/post game that would provide a perfect compliment to the banging style of Patrick Patterson. At the AAU camps that I have attended, Singleton has been a revelation, scoring at will and putting players on notice that he will be a force on the defensive end. Rivals.com has an interview today with DeAndre Liggins in which he states that he believes Singleton is down to Kentucky and Florida State as his final two schools. If this is the case, it is huge news for the Cats as the Vols down in Tennessee have long been thought to be Singleton's school of choice. Leonard Hamilton and the Seminoles have long had a knack for stealing recruits from better schools, where the recruits go to never be heard from again during their long, anonymous careers (say hello to Jason Rich for me). My best Singleton source tells me that he was blown away by his UK visit and that he expects a decision from Chris "within the next two weeks." If this is true, the signs point very positively to the Wildcats and Chris S could be EXACTLY what the doctor ordered for this program. Get Singleton and you can take a reach on a guy like Garrett Stutz (who is a REACH) and still have a class that is national championship-worthy. As great as last weekend was on the field, legacies are built on doing the little things that build championships. If the Cats cut down the nets in the next three or four years, remember last weekend.....a Singleton commitment, built on the great sports weekend we just experienced could be the final piece that makes such a championship a potential reality.
