Is Tubby coming back to the SEC?

by:Thomas Beisner03/14/11
In an article about Billy Gillispie's continued flirtation with Texas Tech (no formal offer yet), the Fort Worth Star Telegram says that Tubby Smith is close to accepting Arkansas' head coaching position and has already held face-to-face meetings with the school.  If Smith were to take the job, he would return to the SEC, where he has a career 139-53 record, including 5 SEC Tournament and 5 regular season titles.  It would also mean the end of a disappointing era in Minnesota, that saw him fail to make the Sweet 16 (or advance past the first round of the NCAA Tournament) for the first time at any of his coaching stops.  And an antsy and critical fanbase, which yearns for a return to its uptempo and chaotic glory days, can look forward to 40 Minutes of *YAAAWWWNNNN*.  Good for Tubby, though.  He's better than Minnesota. Story courtesy of Mike Jones.  Who?  Mike Jones.  Bet he's never heard that.
