Devin Booker sat out of Phoenix’s game against Miami tonight, but Tyler Ulis turned in plenty of highlights that had NBATV commentators Rick Kamla, Isiah Thomas, and Dennis Scott raving, Thomas in particular. The legendary NBA point guard and coach absolutely gushed about Ulis, who put up 16 points, 7 assists, 5 steals, and only one turnover in 35 minutes of play.

“He is always on time, on target with his passes,” Isiah Thomas said. “And he’s made so many difficult passes that are normally turnovers for a guy of his size. But he always give you the ball fake and then he always gives you the pass. Very rarely have you seen him tonight not give you the ball fake first then the pass.”

Ulis got fans buzzing early when he won the tip against 6’2″ 172 lbs. Briante Weber (shoutout to Scott Charlton for the Vines):

Later on, Thomas asked the NBATV crew to replay Ulis blocking out 6’8″, 204 lbs. Okaro White:

“Look at this block out,” Thomas marveled. “Now you’re talking about a little guy getting picked, getting beat up, in there fighting. He has no business in there, but that’s the type of heart and courage Tyler Ulis plays with.”

Even when he gets smacked across the face:

After a pump fake and and-one, Thomas raved some more.

“Again, he understands space, he understands timing, takes the bump,” Thomas said. “And when he’s around that midrange area, his game is tight.”

Yes, it is:

The Suns lost to the Heat tonight, but I think we can all agree they’re the real winners of the offseason for drafting Ulis, right?
