Offseason anxiety slowed to a crawl in the month of May after the Wildcats added CJ Fredrick, TyTy Washington and Sahvir Wheeler to the roster. The moves left the BBN with only two roster mysteries, Davion Mintz and Keion Brooks. Mintz has made it clear that he will test the NBA Draft waters, while Brooks has remained suspiciously silent. Today we received a clue that may forecast Brooks’ future.

Summer starts next week with the return of John Calipari’s summer satellite basketball camps. In their travels across the state, certain players and coaches will spend time talking with the media after palling around with campers. Keion Brooks will speak with the media Friday, June 4 at E-Town High School.

You may be thinking, “So what?” I am thinking, “Why would a guy leaving for the NBA spend his summer working John Calipari’s satellite camps?”

Players are moving into the Wildcat Lodge this weekend. Their travels across the Commonwealth will serve as the first unofficial team bonding experience of the 2021-22 season. A year after Cal’s Cats were deprived of any sort of fun, extracurricular activities, it’s hard to imagine that a player would be involved with these camps, yet not be a part of the team next year.

Purely speculation at this point, this could be Brooks’ way of giving back to the state before he moves on. However, when you also consider Riley Welch’s somewhat dismissive NBA comments on KSR, it feels like Keion Brooks is coming back to Kentucky for one more year. We should find out one way or another next Friday afternoon.
