KSR readers and listeners have answered the call. Since announcing our water drive yesterday morning, we have raised $33,800 to bring clean water to the residents of Martin County and Eastern Kentucky.

If you’re unfamiliar with the water crisis in Martin County, thousands of residents in the Eastern Kentucky county have been without water off and on for several weeks as the Martin County Water District has shut off access due to leaks and other issues. With news that the water company has applied for expedited rate increase of 49.5%, it appears there is no end to the dysfunction; however, thanks to you guys, communities in Martin County and beyond can now make it through the winter with clean water.

If you’d still like to help, we’re accepting donations through midnight tonight. Let’s make that number climb even higher. Your donation — large or small — will go a long way to help Kentuckians in need.
