It's Time For New Music At Commonwealth

by:Will Lentz09/14/10

Every day for the past couple weeks I have been treated to the inane ramblings of our fearless leader on the last half hour of his new radio gig.  Between commercials reminding me not to text while driving, and the mad static we get in Lexington, the show is actually pretty entertaining.  Especially because by the time 11:30 rolls around (when I get in my car and can listen,) they have been on air for an hour and a half and have pretty much covered most of what the breaking news of the day is.  Which means I get to hear all kinds of ridiculous but entertaining topics.

Today’s was ‘What song should the football team be introduced to?’ I’m told that this stems from a recent complaint about whatever intro they are using at commonwealth these days (I wouldn’t know because I didn’t make it to the WKU game,) but either way, it’s a worthy discussion.  Last I heard, Matt’s vote was with Baba O’Riley by The Who, though Mother by Danzig and Lose Yourself by Eminem (which, unlike Big EZ, I think is a great pick)  had also been considered.

Another idea was to let a new player on the team pick the intro music for each game.  Which is all good and well until we learn that Randall Cobb gets pumped up by listening to Conway Twitty.  Still, maybe a few players could pick some songs and the rest of the team could vote on it?  With KSR holding the final say?  I think that would work.

Anyways, here are my thoughts for good intro music:

Godzilla by Blue Oyster Cult

Reason for Picking – Because I’m pretty sure this song was written about Randall Cobb.

Champion by Kanye West

Reason for Picking – It’s not the most ‘pump you up’ song, but I like ‘Ye, and since I’m writing this post, I’m putting him on here.  Plus it talks about being a Champion.

Thunder Cats Into by Lion O

Reason for Picking – I mean, it’s Thundercats… hello?

Pop, Lock(e), and Drop It by Huey

Reason for Picking – I don’t actually like this song, but my room mate made the Locke joke, and it was too horrible/good to pass up.  I apologize.

The MonStars Anthem from Space Jam

Reason for Picking – Aside from it being totally awewsome… “It’s like inch by inch and step by step/I’m closing in on your position and destruction is my mission/Though eight is not enough, your whole squad better duck/It’s like switch when I bust/Now you’re whole crew is dust”

As you can tell, my music library is pretty limited… to nostalgia songs apparently.  So surely you have better suggestions.  If it’s good enough, I’ll tell Matt, and who knows what could end up happening.
