It didn’t take long for former Kentucky star Jamin Davis to solidify himself as a day-one starter in the NFL. According to Doug Kyed of PFF, Washington’s first-round selection has impressed in training camp and is expected to start at linebacker when the season begins in September. “First-round LB Jamin Davis is impressing early and looks primed for a Day 1 starting role,” Kyed wrote. Davis’ rise to stardom began in 2020 after the standout linebacker finished with a team-high 102 tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, three interceptions, two pass deflections, one defensive touchdown and one forced fumble as a junior. This comes after Davis combined for just 42 total tackles in his first two seasons at Kentucky. The 6-foot-4 linebacker out of Ludowici, Georgia saw his name come off the board with the No. 19 overall pick, good for third among linebackers in the 2021 NFL Draft. “I think most people realize that as good as he is and as great a young man he is, he’s still got the best football ahead of him,” UK head coach Mark Stoops told KSR back in March. “The sky is the limit for him. … He’ll keep that tradition going of the linebackers playing in the NFL from Kentucky. Jamin will do well.” On the first day of training camp, Washington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera said Davis was an immediate standout. “Jamin stood out right away,” Rivera said, per Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post. “He’s one of the guys that we’re counting on to be able to handle these situations and circumstances.” Davis and the Washington Football Team will open their preseason schedule against the New England Patriots on Thursday, August 12 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
