Congratulations to Campbellsville native and UK graduate J.B. Holmes, who was just named to the US' team for the Ryder Cup, which takes place September 30-October 2 at the Hazeltine National Golf Club in Minnesota. Holmes was one of three captain's picks by US captain Davis Love III along with Rickie Fowler and Matt Kuchar, and will join the eight other team members -- Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, Phil Mickelson, Patrick Reed, Jimmy Walker, Brooks Koepka, Brandt Snedeker and Zach Johnson -- who qualified automatically via the points system. Holmes was an integral part of the US's win in the 2008 Ryder Cup, the last time the US won the event. After undergoing brain surgery in 2011, he's stormed back to become a Top 25 player on the tour. He's currently ranked 21st in the official world golf rankings, and this year, tied for fourth in the Masters and finished third in the British Open. After the announcement this morning, JB said making the team was one of his biggest goals of the year. "I was very excited. It was one of my main goals all years, to get on this team. To get that call from Davis was a very exciting moment. Some of my greatest memories in golf was at the Ryder in Valhalla," he said. "Anytime you can get to play in your home country and you know your fans are going to be behind you, it's an awesome experience." Congrats, JB. You got this.
