To begin the fall recruiting period, John Calipari and members of the Kentucky coaching staff first stopped in New Jersey to check in on their most important remaining target: five-star guard DJ Wagner. Just seven days later, Cal is already back in the area.

On Friday, the men’s basketball head coach posted to social media that he was in Philadelphia to watch one of his former Wildcats, 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey, work out. But that wasn’t Calipari’s only stop in the City of Brotherly Love. The No. 3 ranked player in the nation and current Kentucky commit, Justin Edwards, plays for Imhotep Institute Charter out of Philadelphia.

Arguably more important though (with respect to Edwards) is where Calipari also stopped on his tour of the northeast.

Just 15 minutes across the river from Philly is Camden High School in New Jersey, which recruiting expert Andrew Slater pointed out by adding that there are “no coincidences in recruiting #BBN”.

Camden is the same school that Wagner attends. ’23 five-star center Aaron Bradshaw, another top Kentucky target, also plays at Camden.

Kentucky’s 2023 recruiting class currently has three firm commitments with Edwards, five-star PG Robert Dillingham, and four-star CG Reed Sheppard. According to On3’s team rankings, that’s the top group in the country. But Calipari hardly seems satisfied. Along with the hard push on Wagner and even Bradshaw, Cal is still trying to add five-star PF Ron Holland at the last minute.
