Jones earns SEC Freshman of the Week honors....and fun stats!

by:Thomas Beisner02/21/11
terrence-jones-south-carolina Thanks to a pair of double-doubles in Kentucky's victories over Mississippi State and South Carolina, Terrence Jones earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors for the 5th time this season (11th time for a UK player).  Jones averaged 18 points, 11 rebounds and four assists in the two contests, making him statistically superior to Alabama's Tony Mitchell (20 ppg, 6 rpg, 1.5 apg), who earned overall Player of the Week honors.  Obviously, there's a conspiracy at work. Also, as an added bonus on an admittedly boring post, here are a couple of interesting statistical notes sent to us from an anonymous mathematical superhero only known as "StatCat":

-   Darius Miller moved into the top 100 all-time scorers in UK history. He is approaching #97 Patrick Sparks, #95 Gimel Martinez and #92 Saul Smith

-  With Terrence Jones’ 19 pts, he is now 6 pts behind DeAndre Liggins on the all-time scoring list.

- Jones had outscored Brandon Knight by 12 total points this year.

- Doron Lamb is tied with Ramon Harris for 173rd on the all-time scoring list (but has played 79 fewer games)

- Josh Harrelson passed Sheray Thomas (188th) and is approaching Rodney Dent (180th) on the scoring list.

- Eloy Vargas scored 2 pts to pass John Hood on the list. Vargas has 48 career pts in 26 games while Hood has 46 pts in 41 appearances
