JUCO cornerback signee Zah Frazier will not be a Kentucky Wildcat after all. After signing with the program on December 15, the top-10 junior college prospect is now backing away from his pledge, announcing Wednesday he will be reopening his recruitment.

“I will not be enrolling at Kentucky,” the standout defensive back announced. “I will be attending another university.”

Frazier was rated as the No. 3 overall JUCO prospect by Rivals, No. 10 by 247Sports and No. 15 by ESPN, a consensus top-five player at his position.

“Zah Frazier, big-time length, 6’3″ corner, junior college player,” Mark Stoops said of Frazier on signing day. “One of the top junior college players in the country that we needed. I wanted that size at corner.”

Frazier also considered Mississippi State, Utah and UTSA before signing with Kentucky last month.

At the time of his commitment, Frazier was seen as an instant replacement for former Kentucky pledge DeCarlos Nicholson, who ultimately flipped to Mississippi State. Now, the Wildcats will have to find another replacement in the secondary, this time for their top-rated JUCO signee.

Who could that be? KSR’s Matt Jones reported Wednesday that Colorado’s Mekhi Blackmon and Georgia’s Ameer Speed are two DB transfers of interest for the program. Blackmon recorded 41 tackles and five interceptions/pass breakups across eight games as a redshirt senior in 2021. He will have one year of eligibility remaining in 2022. As for Speed, a former four-star recruit out of high school, he recorded 13 tackles in 18 games over five years at UGA. He will also have one year of eligibility remaining.

There’s space and need for both. Make it happen.
