According to Steve Jones of Rivals.com, Wright State transferring shooting guard Julius Mays has a scholarship offer from Kentucky and says the Kentucky's interest is "high." If you'll remember, Mays played at NC State for two years, and while there, he hosted none other than a visiting Ryan Harrow, UK's starting point guard headed into next season. Mays is a proven shooter who has one year of eligibility remaining and could start right away. With Mark Lyons heading to Arizona and Torian Graham unlikely to qualify, the 6'2" Mays is Calipari's best chance at added depth to the much depleted backcourt. This past season, Mays led Wright State in scoring, averaging 14.1 points per game, including 42% from the 3-point line and 83% from the free throw line. Mays, who is also considering Purdue, Illinois, Michigan State and Pitt, has no problem coming off the bench if need be. In an interview with Cats Illustrated, he hinted at the team-first attitude which Cal prioritizes: “It’s not all about starting. Some of the best people in the world don’t start. … If you get your opportunity to perform, that’s all it’s about. At the end of the day, it’s about winning the game.” Sounds good to me.
