Justin Jones and UK: Are things heating up again?

by:Thomas Beisner11/26/08
The recruitment of Conyers, Ga. TE Justin Jones seems be taking on a bit of a VH1 reality show feel, minus the awesome. The 6'8" 250 pound, three-star TE originally committed to UK this fall after his recruiting trip to South Carolina was greeted by exactly zero of the Gamecock coaches. Since then, Jones' recruitment has gotten a little strange, starting with a decommitment from the Cats. Then, Jones made a public declaration of that he wanted to play for Alabama after the Tide coaches scouted one of his games. He said he wasn't really feeling the idea of playing O-line at Vandy, then scheduled a visit for December. He warmed up again on the Gamecocks, and now he's even considering taking another visit to UK. Oh, to be young again. And, if that gets your football recruiting juices flowing, check out this pretty good recap from The Item (South Carolina), which details a lot of what is going on in the SEC recruiting right now. In addition to a little bit on Jones, they say that 4-star wideout Alshon Jeffery is still interested despite the decommitment of his QB David Sims. Also, two-star DE/TE Terrell Mitchell remains interested in the Cats and 4-star OL J.K. Jay is sticking with his commitment to Clemson until they name a new coach, but it seems that UK is no longer an option. Also, the aforementioned Jones was named to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's updated Georgia 150 list.  Here are other UK commits/targets on the list (** denotes committed already): Zac Fairchild (QB) 6-4, 226 Brian Adams (WR) 6-4, 210** Terrell Mitchell (DE/TE)  6-6, 220 Kevin Mitchell  (OL)  6-7, 295** Tristian Johnson  (DE)  6-3, 220** Ryan Robinson  (DE)  6-5, 245 Qua Huzzie  (LB)  5-11, 205** DeDe Lattimore  (LB)  6-0, 225 Demetri Merritt  (LB)  6-4, 205** Go Cats.
