Before practice today at the Joe Craft Center, Tyler Ulis spilled the beans on what may be one of the best locker room secrets to come out of Kentucky basketball this season. Ulis told reporters that Karl Towns talks to a little man on his shoulder named “Karlito.”

“He’s such a great kid, he doesn’t want to talk back to you, so he turns his head to the side and talks to that little man on his shoulder,” Coach Cal said of Towns’ imaginary friend. “After he started doing it, I said, ‘Who are you talking to?’ And I can’t remember which of the coaches gave it the nickname: ‘He’s talking to Karlito.'”

Towns said, “I do talk to myself, I don’t know why, but I have some good conversations with myself.”

I’m glad this came out because I’ve seen Towns turn and mumble towards his shoulder SEVERAL times when he’s walking down the court. I thought it was some kind of nervous tic, but no, it’s Karlito, his imaginary friend and coach.

Whatever Karl and Karlito have been discussing lately to improve Karl’s game, keep it up.
