The Kentucky football staff came up just short in securing the services of Sean Thompkins, who committed to Baylor on Sunday afternoon. He first announced the news through Instagram.

Thompkins has been a stock-riser this spring on the gridiron, going from just two Divison I offers in 2021 (Arkansas State and Georgia Tech) to choosing from a final four that consisted of Kentucky, Baylor, Florida, and Tennessee. The 6-foot-6, 310-pound offensive tackle out of Newton (GA) High School is not currently ranked by the major recruiting services but expects to receive a significant bump in forthcoming updates.

Thompkins took three official visits before picking the Bears. He went to Baylor first (June 10) before stopping by Kentucky (June 13) a few days later. Most recently, he returned from an OV to Florida (June 17) before dropping his top four nearly a week later.

Heading into the weekend, Baylor and Florida were the perceived favorites with Kentucky considered a close third, but more visits were expected into the summer. Instead, he announced on Saturday that a decision was coming Sunday afternoon, where he went with the Bears.

Kentucky has seven commits locked in for the ’23 class, led by four-star WR Shamar Porter. The rest of the group is headlined by six three-star prospects, four of which hail from the Bluegrass State.
