Kentucky Derby 133: and so it begins

by:John Dubya05/02/07
trademark of Churchill Downs Inc. Jai Lucas, Patrick Patterson, Michael Sanchez, and Beas Hamga...are not running in this year's Kentucky Derby, but a full-load of 20 top-flight thoroughbreds are. This will be the 3rd Derby in a row to field the maximum number of entrants, further complicating any hope of scientific handicapping. I will offer a breakdown and set the odds for each horse in the field in the next coming days, and will also have a few "extras" along the way as we segue into horse racing's most illustrious affair on Saturday, May 5th (I'll also have a breakdown, eesh, analysis of the Oaks for Friday). I'll be on the SportsMob all week, so if you have a horse racin question, or you just want to berade me for yesterday's post, please, I would love to hear from you. Also, if you're in the Louisville area and want a taste of Derby action without the hassle of 200,000 people, head down to 4th Street Live today at 5 for the post position selection show. It'll be a who's who of horse racing elite, and if that weren't enough, Collective Soul and Five for Fighting will be holding down the stage...Yes,Collective Soul is still playing, and Five for Fighting really isn't The Dave Matthews Band after all. In the meantime, enjoy (if you can) this sensational rendition of "Folsom Prison Blues" as sung by a computer animated unicorn...apologies to Mr. Cash.
