The field is set for the 147th running of the Kentucky Derby. Tuesday morning Churchill Downs officials drew post positions for the 20-horse field that will race 1 1/4 miles Saturday, May 1 in the first leg of the Triple Crown.

This year’s post position draw was filled with drama. The first post position on the rail is typically coveted during regular racing days, but not in the crowded Kentucky Derby. It remained open with only three horses remaining, including the favorite Essential Quality, when Known Agenda’s name was called to race with the No. 1 saddlecloth.

Racing from No. 14, Essential Quality is the morning line favorite at 2-1. Racing next to Brad Cox’s horse is the second favorite, Rock Your World at 5-1. Despite receiving the rail, Florida Derby winner Known Agenda is 6-1. Blue Grass Stakes runner-up Highly Motivated will race from No. 17, a gate that has never had a Kentucky Derby winner.
