For the first time this season, Kentucky was dealt a loss by the Maryland Terrapins on Wednesday. Kentucky trailed the whole game, and even when it looked like the Cats were about to make a run to make it a game again, they just couldn’t string enough possessions together to get over the hump. However, it was a completely different story on Friday.

On Friday, Kentucky beat Morgan State 101-39 to move to 8-1 on the year. Absolutely no mercy shown from Kenny Brooks and his squad ahead of their December slate starting with the SEC/ACC Challenge next Wednesday.

Kentucky got out to a 24-7 lead at the end of the first quarter — a lead fueled by an 18-0 run. It was always going to be the case that Kentucky was the better team, and they didn’t waste much time in showing that. The Cats were cruising early, setting the pace for what was to come the rest of the way.

That would would only continue to swell with Kentucky going up 47-20 at the half. The offensive attack was pretty balanced. No one player was absolutely dominating the stat sheet, but a lot of players were playing rather well. A nice change of pace from the Maryland game.

Five Cats would finish this one in double figures in the scoring column — Asia Boone (21 points), Teonni Key (16 points), Jordan Obi (17 points), Clara Strack (13 points) and Kaelyn Carroll (15). Kentucky had 31 points off of turnovers on Friday, while Morgan State had none.

At the end of the day, Kentucky needed to win by this type of margin, especially after losing on Wednesday. This team can still be one of the best teams in the country, and it started with proving that against the Lady Bears.

Following Kentucky’s big win over Morgan State, the Cats will head to Coral Gables to take on the Miami Hurricanes in the SEC/ACC Challenge on Wednesday, Dec. 3rd. That game is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET on ESPN2. Miami is 5-1 on the season, but in their last game, they were taken to overtime by 2-5 George Washington. Before that though, they only lost to No. 11 Iowa by three. Can’t underestimate these Canes, especially with this one being a road contest.
