WATCH: The scene on the court as Kentucky celebrated its win over Duke
I know what the scene in my house and likely many houses across the Big Blue Nation was like when the horn sounded on Kentucky’s 77-72 comeback win over Duke. Because the Cats and the Blue Devils played in the nightcap of the Champions Classic, ESPN went almost immediately to SportsCenter, where a downtrodden Jay Williams processed the loss, just one hour after calling this Duke team the most talented since his Duke team won the title in 2001. You hate to see it.
Thankfully, Steven Peake was on the floor to capture the scene as the Cats celebrated their third win of the season and the first statement victory of the Mark Pope era. Hit play below to see the players and coaches rejoice and go through the handshake line. Kerr Kriisa motioning to the crowd and hugging the Wildcat mascot is absolutely wonderful, matched only by Steven Peake and some Kentucky fans in the crowd doing the “Who’s in the house tonight? UK” chant in front of Lee Anne Pope and her daughter Shay. After going viral on ESPN, the three Kentucky fans who dressed up as Popes even made an appearance at the end.
