Kentucky falls to Georgia 72-67 and has lost three straight games for first time under Kenny Brooks
It’s been a bit of a rough go since Teonni Key went out due to injury, but Kentucky had a chance to get back on track against a good Georgia team. The Lady Bulldogs have been just outside of the AP top 25 for the last several weeks, and a win for the Cats would be really nice for their momentum moving forward.
Kentucky would end up losing, however, falling 72-67 to the Georgia Lady Bulldogs. Kentucky has now lost three straight games and sits at 17-5 (4-4 SEC).
It was another slow start for Kentucky on Saturday. They got down 11-2, then fought their way back to make it 13-12 Georgia, but then to end the first quarter of play, the Lady Bulldogs went on an 8-0 run to make it 21-12 through one. Like basketball inside of Historic Memorial Coliseum was just as bad as the weather outside of it.
Kenny Brooks went to a zone early in the second quarter, and that allowed Kentucky to cut into the lead, but yet again, Georgia started to pull away. At the half, it was 36-24 Lady Bulldogs. The energy from the team was practically nonexistent. It kind of just felt like they didn’t want to play on Saturday. At least, that’s what it seemed like in the first half.
In the third quarter, Kentucky came back to life and even got out to a 42-39 lead midway through the period. However, Georgia didn’t lay down and give up, and after hitting some threes, they led 52-50 heading into the last 10 minutes of play. Jordan Obi, who had played pretty well all game, hit a layup as time expired in the quarter.

That would create a bit of positive momentum for Kentucky, but unfortunately, it just wasn’t enough to get the win.
Next up for the Cats are the Arkansas Razorbacks in Bud Walton Arena, who currently sit at 11-10 (0-6 SEC). Interestingly enough, in their last game, Arkansas outplayed Georgia for three quarters but were outscored 26-1 in the second period. That matchup is set for Sunday, Feb. 1 at 2 p.m. ET on SEC Network.
